MEET THE ARTIST. . .

When I paint I feel immersed within the scene. I hope that others viewing each painting feel the same sense of solitude, tranquility, awe, happiness or excitement that it elicits in me. My main focus is on expressing impressions of reflections, shadows, and light on our environment.

As a city girl I loved being surrounded by trees in the parks and time spent by the ocean. The Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City were favorite places to explore. Rembrandt’s Laughing Cavalier in the Washington Gallery of Art is one of my favorite memories. I was greatly influenced by a creative father whose hobbies were centered on art projects and photography.

Oil painting was my first medium of study; however, after retiring from a nursing career my interest in pastels blossomed. My formal training in pastels was with Georgia pastelists Aagut Matson, Dyanne Carpenter, Bob Nocon and at workshops with internationally known pastelists Kippy Hammond, Margaret Dyer, Alan Flattmann, and Sandra Burshell. I continue to perfect my skills as a member of the Southeastern Pastel Society and Southern Colours Art Association.

Painting with other artists skilled in various mediums is an exciting learning experience. I have exhibited my work in local art shows, cafes and in private collections in the Northeast, Louisiana and the state of Washington.
